Quits
Comparison

“Which app is best?” depends on your group.

These are good apps — millions of people split money with them. But each made trade-offs that hurt a travelling group in a specific way. Here's the honest matrix, with their strengths included.

vs Splitwise

Where Splitwise genuinely wins: the biggest network of existing users, mature web app, years of integrations, and a polished payment-reminder loop. If your group already lives there and pays for Pro, it works.

Where it hurts: the free tier caps expense entry at a handful per day and shows unskippable ads, and receipt scanning, currency conversion, charts and even search sit behind a per-person subscription ($4.99/mo or $29.99–49.99/yr). On a nine-person trip, that pricing model means nine subscriptions — or one very patient treasurer.

The Quits position: entering expenses is never the product you pay for — that's the whole group's ledger. Only AI scanning is metered, with free scans included. And your Splitwise history imports from its CSV export in one minute.

vs Tricount

Where Tricount genuinely wins: it's free, popular across Europe, dead simple, and its balance/settle-up flow taught this whole category what good defaults look like.

Where it hurts: since the bunq acquisition it's a funnel into a bank, and the 2024 rewrite removed CSV export, statistics and the web app, while sync reliability on Android has been rough since. Your trip's ledger deserves an exit door.

The Quits position: a splitting app, not a bank funnel. Export and stats are free and permanent, sync is the thing we obsess over — and your existing tricount imports with nothing but its share link.

vs Splid

Where Splid genuinely wins: a beloved one-time purchase ($4.99), fully offline, no signup, 150 currencies. It respects its users, and it shows.

Where it hurts: it's deliberately minimal — no receipt scanning, no voice, no live claiming, no charts. Somebody still types the whole bill in, then does the assigning by hand.

The Quits position: Splid's respect for your data — local-first, no forced account, honest pricing — with the AI layer that removes the typing. If Splid is your speed, we're the same species with a camera and a microphone.
